Customer: Thanks a lot. You must be very busy during the Christmas season.

お店にぬいぐるみの有無を尋ねるとき、「ひとつ」だけを意識されることはあまりない
→ ここでは複数形が普通の表現となる
英語の名詞では「複数」が基本
A mother will love her children.
母は子供を愛するものだ。
ある母親の子供を一人に限定する、そうした強い必要がない → 複数形
※単数が選ばれるのは、「1」が意識される特別なケース
I think plural children is preferred in this sentence.

preferred：adj 好まれる、より望ましい
Yeah, I agree.
I think in most cases, plural is the default for native speakers.
And in this particular sentence, it makes all the more sense.
Because we don’t want to limit a mother to just one child.
So, “children” would be preferred.
Of course, you can also say – A mother will love her child.
That’s not incorrect.
But in that case, it really limit to a mother with a child.
Just one child.
バランスが大事
I am a student.
私は学生です。
We are students.
私たちは学生です。
“We are a student.” も可能ではあるが ” weが複数なら、studentも複数 “ = バランスが重視
So, the balance is important, isn’t it?
That’s the main point here. We – students.
Dogs have a tail.
犬には尻尾がある
Dogs have tails.
犬には尻尾がある
So, you guys, which do you prefer “a tail” or “tails”?
I would definitely say, “Dogs have tails.”

I think as you said, you know, “logically speaking”, it’s possible,
“Dogs have a tail.” Because they each have one tail.
But even in this generic use, I think most native speakers would choose the plural.

単数・複数の選択は気楽にやってよい。
「犬が複数なんだから尻尾だって複数あるだろう」そうした感触で選んでしまって構わない
