– I wonder what made you two go into the café together. In your place, I wouldn’t have gone.

I can explain everything.
「わたしに説明」 explain to me

So, is it Okay to say “explain me”

No. It would be completely meaning.
You can say “explain yourself”, which would be
“explain what you mean.” or, “Why you did something“.

That’s right. But you can’t say “explain me”.

ANSWER
1). Can you explain the secret of your success?
2). I need to discuss a serious matter with you.
I need to talk about a serious matters. ※

So, what is the image of discuss?

Well, discuss is very much like, digest, like devour.
It’s very direct, right?

Exactly.
So, attack, really stresses,
the directness of the relationship with the object.
And let’s say, if we say “talk about”, that would be a very kind of
round about.
You know, talking about, surrounding the topic.
But not directly attacking it.
